Amaze Creative Lead, Alastair Eilbeck shares his love of public art.
I love public art, not the statues around public buildings or the occasional piece of metal on a roundabout at the edge of town. I love the sometimes ephemeral but generally big flourishes of public creativity, from La Machine’s ‘La Princesse’ to Chris O Shea’s ‘Hand From Above’. Art that reaches out and engages the public should create a tangible atmosphere amongst participants and onlookers. Spontaneous interactions in places where you least expect it. Within my own practice I am continually impressed by how much the supposedly reserved British public happily express themselves when given the opportunity.
